Ok, I really have to stop buying cars as solution for the breakdowns or work I don't want to do on my daily driver. During the testdrive after installing a criuse control in my '90 volvo 740 the fuelpump desided that it didn't like diesel and started leaking it.

As having it repaired would be pretty expensive, I bought a temporary car while fixing it myself.

1987 Volvo 760
I found this car at a local ebay lookalike site. It needed a bit of work, at least it was drivable... when you don't mind burning inside the car as the heater has only 1 setting, hot. At this moment we've fixed almost all problem and cleaned the windows from the inside, but there are a few problems left:

  • The ACC only heats the car, and it very good at it. (to bad it's summer)
  • The airco has a leak.
It has bin refilled, but it worked for only 2 dayw
  • It needs a good cleaning.
It has bin cleaned once... but that's not enough.
  • The steeringrods are shot and need to be replaced.

After havenig driven it to day I've decided to keep this one as a daily driver for the road trips to work. The 740 will be used as a spare or as the car for my normal trips.

ToDo

To keep track of the work that has to be done on the cars, I've added a small list of repairs that still have to be done. The dots are colorcoded.

  • Fix cold-start unit
  • New rear shockabsorbers (nivomats)
  • Replace rear window (cracked)
  • Locate & fix airco leak
  • Correct cam & dieselpump timing
  • Fit headlightwipers
  • Fit front foglights
  • Repaint panel of electric roof
  • Add cruisecontrol

The headlightwipers and the foglights are marked as a fix, as they are standard, but missing.

I've added a nice app to calculate all costs made for this car. Just folow the link.
